Dear Senior Cricketer,
This is to let you know that Sir Garfield Sobers Cricket Masters, which has traditionally been held in Barbados every two years, will be renamed as above and moved to Antigua for 2013.
The tournament is run by a committee drawn from the UK over Fifties. We decided in 2011, to give another destination a chance, in view of the fact that we will be able to use the facilities at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium. It is every cricketers dream to play at some of the test grounds in the Caribbean and we are now going to make that possible in 2013.
Sir Garry has gone on record as saying “We feel that Senior players who have given so much to the game and who still thoroughly enjoy their cricket, deserve the chance to sample the delights at the end of their careers.” Having spoken to Sir Viv at length, I know that he is of the same opinion and is looking forward to welcoming these players and their families to Antigua.
The cricket will be serious but played in a friendly, festival atmosphere. Matches are played competitively, but enjoyment is the key to our success. Antigua will offer a holiday of a lifetime.
As some of you may know, Yorkshire won the tournament last year in Barbados so if you feel that you can emulate them why not register now for 2013. Prices will start from £1450 per person based on two people sharing a twin room or studio apartment. A deposit of £300 per person will be required by Oct 2012 in order to confirm and guarantee these prices.
